Charles’ Hope

Our families are so grateful for the monetary gifts we provide.  More than their gratitude though, is a sense of deep Hope.  We hear it when they talk of their future, when they share their desire and plans to support themselves and their families. And maybe the most satisfying is when they take initiative to find ways to help others in their community, to spread their hope beyond their own household. To show this point, here is a story about Charles one of our friends in Haiti.

Jeremiah 29:11 ~ For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, … to give you a future and a hope.

Charles’ Hope

Charles Densky Polo was one of the younger gentlemen that we met in Haiti during our mission trips.   He is still only 23 years old.  As with many in Haiti, he recently was displaced as the gangs overran his village. He moved to Hinche in a region about 50 miles north of Port Au Prince.

Instead of putting his head down, Charles began to lift the spirits of those around him.  He has a passion for working with kids, so he started to gather children together from his community. He says, “I give them training, I teach them how to live in peace and how to help each other when they are in trouble; how to say thank you when someone gives them something.  I teach them how to live and how to share what they have.”

A couple of days each week he gets these children together – at this point around 30 in total.  In the beginning, it was just to play games with them, but as time passed, he realized through his mentoring, he could have a lasting influence on them.

These kids are not in school, as their families cannot afford to send them.  Charles said, “I started gathering these children with the aim of helping young people get their education because there are many young people who are lost, because they do not have a leader to help them and give them advice not to join the gangs.”

Charles is sharing his hope and having an impact on these children.   Our desire at Abigael Relief is to pursue ways that we can increase how we are supporting Charles and the work he is doing with these kids.

Thank You for helping Abigael Relief to be able to provide not only monetary support but especially Hope for our families in Haiti.   Charles’ story exemplifies what can be done with your gifts.
